In addition Spice Films is currently in pre-production on a second series The Unknown Chef - Flavours of the Silk Road (WT) - a 20-part documentary and food history series which takes inspiration from the routes Marco Polo travelled in the 13th century.
In the series we will explore the many regional cuisines that Polo encountered along the Silk Road, before revealing how myriad flavours, ingredients and cuisines have migrated across borders, and been adapted by contemporary immigrant families into food businesses, the length and breadth of the UK.
In each episode we’ll unpack the earlier historical stories behind a regional cuisine, before meeting two ‘unknown’ chefs who have brought that cuisine to the UK - learning how it has influenced our wider food culture, how our chefs maintain links to family and heritage through their food and cookery, and discovering the often-surprising origin stories of the spices & staple ingredients we take for granted on our supermarket shelves.
Principal photography on the series is scheduled to start in Feb 2023.
